In November, the national  Foundation for Physical Therapy presented its largest single research grant award in the 30-year history of the Foundation to Dr. Laurie King, Assistant Professor of Neurology. The $300,000 grant in collaboration with Dr. Fay Horak, Professor of Neurology, is for work comparing the effectiveness of 3 different approaches to rehabilitation of people with Parkinson's disease who also have other chronic health impairments.

OHSU and VA rehabilitation departments will provide one-on-one physical therapy, a group exercise class supervised by a physical therapist at CHH, and a home exercise program. Drs. King, Horak and Carter recently presented a 2 day workshop for 90 northwest physical therapists at OHSU focused on state-of-the-art rehabilitation to prevent mobility disability in people with Parkinson's disease, sponsored by the Parkinson's Center of Oregon, OHSU.
